” …Making it behind the bar with a semi-local star. Isn’t that pushing things too far, Sally?…”
My song goes on to say “I’m not your Momma, I’m not your Sis, but I remember how the bad boys kiss, Sally. “
Do you remember how the bad boys or girls kiss? Giving advice is always a risky venture, but I’d like to believe that learning what love is doesn’t always come with experiencing what it is not.
Hey, everybody learns to love somewhere… and I sure made some mistakes along the way. A fool’s luck and good fortune finally set me right… as I hope it did for you.
“Sally” is on the As the Crow flies album released in 1989.

Crow – sometimes now I wish I could have given advice to my younger self, say in my 30s or 40s, saying something like “You’re the greatest and you don’t have to put up with these men who don’t totally appreciate your uniqueness.” But – I doubt I would have listened! Great to have some of your old recordings to listen to, Crow, and it reminds me of how lucky I was to meet you at the Kerrville Folk Festival in (I think) 1982, when you and a few others really encouraged me and gave me some confidence in my songwriting! I was in awe of your talent, and that meant so much to me!

Emily, Yes… oh the advice I didn’t really hear. I’m sure it was out there. Thanks for the friendship through these years! hugs, Crow
