Deja Vu, but Better –

Artisan Stories, Auntie Crow's Corner, Crow Johnson Evans, Author, Giving Back / August 31, 2023 by Crow Johnson Evans

Spread the love

Santa Fe NM and again playing music!

How do you feel when you discover that the doors you thought closed to you are really open? Overjoyed?

This singer-songwriter, author, artist, spinner, and weaver just had the most wonderful week revisiting New Mexico. I’d stayed in Santa Fe on and off through the 70s, selling the little flues we made and cheering the burning of Zozobra. That’s an event celebrated annually as the burning of old man gloom. Zozobra in Spanish means anxiety, worry, or sinking.

I must admit feeling some anxiety before the road trip. . . considering that things always change and expectations can lead to disappointment. My anticipated disappointments did not appear. The peace and open skies of the region are like an embrace. And the great company of friends and family makes all the difference. The creative abandon in Santa Fe and Albuquerque is entertaining and inspiring.

The journey

If you’ve seen me at the Kerrville Music Festival in the last two years, you may have noticed that I’m again playing music, singing, and songwriting. That was one of those ships I thought might have left the dock. But some things in life get put on hold for a while and are as welcomed back as warmly as an old friend. Janet Feld and I have a regular co-writing date despite the miles between us. We’re looking forward to sharing the new songs. And I’m conducting Performance/Songwriting workshops this my 80th year!

I hope you are discovering that some of your ships have not yet left the dock and that deja vu can bring refreshing new experiences your way.

I’m looking forward to the 40th anniversary of Winfest in Winslow, Arkansas on September 16th. Hope to see you there if you are in the area. There will be surprises like artwork, music, weavings, and the book Me and Miss Henrietta, which was written about a place just like Winslow.

Share this newsy letter if you wish with friends, family, and creative co-conspirators.

Very best, Auntie Crow (AKA Crow Johnson Evans)

Ships that you thought had sailed – well Crow, I was actually a studio are major back in college hundreds of years ago, and in recent years I have rarely done art work, but lately I have been painting pictures of trout on metal ceiling tiles that someone here in Cotter ripped out of an old house. I’m too low tech to include a picture here but I’ll email one to you separately – anyway, I love doing art work again! I use acrylic paint, leftover house paint, and nail polish!

    New Mexico is beautiful.
I’m glad you are revisiting singing and playing. Maybe post a video of a new song?
    Best Wishes.

It should be called something better than a murder of crows. A calling of crows maybe.
