I bet you know the feeling. It can be a flu bug, losing your get-up and go, or (in my case) a run of chemo treatments. For me that was 30 years ago, but sometimes holding down the couch is the best we can do. I say we might as well do it with attitude and style.
Carey Creed recorded it on her Small Braveries album in 2012. And my version is on Painting Stories ‘cross the Sky recorded in 1995. Both are included in this post for your enjoyment.
Holdin’ Down the Couch by Crow Johnson (ASCAP)
Lazy kinda morning coffee ain’t even workin’ guess I gotta hold down this couch. Someone’s gotta do it. There’s a whole lot to it. Holdin’ down this couch. Hummingbirds zoomin’ round my window. Taunting me about my get up and go. I won’t give an inch I’m standing my ground, holding this big ole couch down.
It’s lumpy and low and plaid and brown and I’m just gonna hold it down. I got lots to eat and a blanket for my feet. I’m just gonna hold this old couch down. You can try to call me on the phone. You’ll decide nobody’s home. I won’t give an inch I’m standin’ my ground holdin’ this big ole couch down.

Hope you’ve enjoyed these versions and especially hope you are not currently holdin’ the couch down. Bye for now from Auntie Crow’s Corner.
