Hey Everybody.. you friends, family, and precious fans….
It’s been a long time since I sent out a Newsletter, so I wanted to let you know that things are going great these days. We had some funky health this Fall, but both Arthur and I are back to our sunny sides facing up and doing fine.
Well, in truth, I’m better than fine. YES Making a new recording! After a few years of getting back into my music, I have a bunch of songs co-written with Janet Feld that are begging to be recorded. Janet is a guitar teacher supreme for humanoids, a great friend, and touring performer. www.janetsplanetmusic.com She lives in Boston; I live in NW Arkansas — which at times makes for a cultural fusion that’s hilarious. We have called it “Bagels and Grits” music.
An example. I came up with the line, “put on your old boots and meet me at the meadow” referring to the Kerrville Festival campground where the music at small campsites, goes all night. Janet laughed and said, that if she’d written that line it would have read, “put on your crocs and meet me at the Deli.”
Synchronicity showed up at the perfect moment. And Rush Beesley, who produced “Picture and Thought” and “Raw, Spiced, and Seasoned” is working with me again!! He lives in Texas, but the internet allows us to keep in close touch —even so far as sharing tracks!! We don’t have a deadline, being our own bosses. Nothing will be rushed (sorry for the pun).
This year will be my fourth in a row to make the pilgrimage back to Kerrville Music Festival and the “Crow’s Nest”. In the ‘70’s thru ‘90s, I rarely missed a festival. Last year I conducted a performance workshop on connecting your songs with an audience—whether around a campfire or on stage. We had fun and solved a few mysteries. Saw people open up and shine. This year I am so excited to be teaching how to get to “The Songs Only You can Write” A 2-hour workshop designed for folks who have already written a song or two, either on their own or with a co-writer.

If you’ve been in this group for long you know that my husband and I have gone on dozens of birding trips. Rather than taking on the steep slopes of some exotic land, we have decided to take a river trip in France. It will be thru the Bordeaux wine country. Although I am no longer drink alcohol (2 years 2 months) (thank you, Universe), Arthur does enjoy wine and beer. My maternal grandparents lived in France although were born in the USA. So I have fond memories of their speaking French to me and telling tales of adventure. I want to stand on the streets in Paris, where my grandfather stood as a 19 year old young man.
Years ago, I ran the Zassafras Music News, a quarterly newsprint magazine about performing songwriters. Sure miss keeping touch with all of the doings of the zillions of artists carrying on the torch today. The internet, although boggling and frustrating at times, has been a good way to stay in touch with folks who haven’t left the planet yet.
I’ll sign off with a quote shared by Mike “Mudcat” Acklin and installed in a song Janet Feld and I wrote called “Ole Mudcat’s Warning”……. “Don’t Call Up Nothin’, You Can’t Send Back..”Wishing you the company of good souls, great music, and the adventures of a lifetime. If you have a friend who you think would enjoy these newsletters, please share or suggest they go to www.crowspun.com or www.crowjohnsonevans.com and join us for free.
And thank you for continuing to listen to my songs on spotify.com, bandcamp.com , and in your memories.
Hugs n love, Crow.
